ReplyDeleteSo what makes him(Carlos Kleiber) the Maestro's Maestro?
He was a total perfectionist who rehearsed so much, that when it came to the actual performance he could almost improvise -- and take everyone in the orchestra along with him. It's a risky thing to attempt in concert, but when it works, it makes it seem as if the music is being composed right then and there -- which is an extremely exciting thing to experience either as a performer, or in the audience.
